Hong Kong Transport

Hong Kong Transport

Hong Kong has a highly developed and sophisticated transport network, encompassing both public and private transport means. Four Main transportation means in Hong Kong are four kinds:

Public light bus

The public light bus or minibus is a public transport service in Hong Kong. It uses minibuses to serve areas that standard Hong Kong bus lines cannot reach as efficiently. The vehicles are colloquially known by the code-switch van.

MTR

The Mass Transit Railway is the rapid transit railway system of Hong Kong. Opened in 1979, the system now includes 218.2 km of rail with 161 stations, including 93 railway stations and 68 light rail stops Operated by the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRCL), the MTR is one of the most profitable metro systems in the world, with a high farebox recovery ratio of 186%.

Double-decker bus

The double-decker buses are the most special transportation means in Hong Kong. Although there are many places where you can see double decker buses, yet you will find double decker buses the most popular in Hong Kong and London.
Nowadays many different countries want to have double decker buses in their cities, but actually it is difficult to have them because of their height.

Hong Kong Air Pollution
Air pollution in Hong Kong is considered a serious problem. Visibility is less than eight kilometers for 30% of the year. Cases of asthma and bronchial infections have soared in recent years due to reduced air quality.

  •      On two cloud-free days, the haze situation can differ dramatically depending on the season and therefore on the direction of the wind.
  • Economic impact: Even as early as 2000, the total negative impact on the Hong Kong Economy was serious. Diseases caused by air pollution such as cardio respiratory disease led to an expenditure in excess of HK$11.1 billion.[9] Research estimates that the pollution is costing Hong Kong about HK$1billion a year in hospital admissions and lost productivity. In addition, about 1,600 deaths a year might be avoided if air quality improves. Although HK$1 billion dollars may not be a big amount to Hong Kong at this point, it will be quite an amazing amount if the cost keeps going up year after year.

Hong Kong Life
Life in Hong Kong is international and busy. In Hong Kong there are many people from various parts of the world; everyone in the street is walking very fast.  If you walk too slowly, the people behind you may push you forward. So one who comes to Hong Kong for the first time may feel very uncomfortable walking on the street. Many international businessmen have come to work in cooperation with Hong Kong businesses. In fact, Hong Kong is a bridge between China and the rest of the world. Goods which are rare in China can be found abundant in Hong Kong for this is where Mainlanders come for these goods.

Also every day there are many people from Mainland China visiting Hong Kong where they do shopping. However, the quality of some Mainlanders is different: they simply do not have the sense of obeying civic rules. Very often they jumps the lines when they are eager to buy goods which they do not have in Mainland China.
Hong Kong is fascinating! Please come and visit Hong Kong!
